STATION Berlin

2025 will be a decisive year for the digital euro. The European Central Bank is in the midst of preparations for this new form of cash. Meanwhile, the necessary political process in Brussels is stalling. The project is still unknown to many citizens.
If we want to introduce a new currency to the European public by 2028, we need above all: more civil society attention for the digital central bank currency, more and more accurate knowledge, more deliberation and civilised debate, more cooperation, collective imagination and political will.
Prof. Dr. Petra Gehring, scientific director of the Centre for Responsible Digitalisation (ZEVEDI) and project manager of the discourse project eFin & Democracy, and media theorist Dr. Sebastian Gießmann will debate how the digital euro could and should be designed for all generations under the current conditions.
The discussion will focus on the political processes, media theory aspects and economic implications of the digital euro – and will also invite open exchange with the audience.
