Call for Papers: KI – Text und Geltung. Wie verändern KI-Textgeneratoren wissenschaftliche Diskurse?

Call for Papers

Interdisciplinary Conference organized by the Ad hoc-project Discourses of disruptive digital technologies using the example of AI text generators (KI:Text)
25 – 26 August 2023, Technische Universität Darmstadt

The statement that AI can generate texts tells us something about the understanding of texts. But what does it mean for the understanding of texts if one attributes the generation of texts to an AI? What is the difference between man-made and computer-generated texts and which claims to validity can be raised or disputed in each case? What do the individual sciences expect, fear and hope for when texts are received in their discourses that were created with AI-supported tools? And what consequences does this have for the criteria of scientific validity and authorship?

These and similar questions illustrate not only the great disruptive potential of digital technologies, but also the enormous challenge that the use of AI text generators such as ChatGPT, Mindverse or Jasper poses for future work with and on texts in general. The questions addressed in this context in different disciplines are correspondingly diverse and their discourses will be made the subject of this interdisciplinary conference.

Deadline for abstracts: 15 June 2023

Abstracts and papers may be submitted in German or in English.

Zugänge zu den Zugängen: Perspektiven und Gestaltungsoptionen

Interdisciplinary Workshop

4 May 2023, 10:00 – 16:00 CEST
Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen

The workshop “Zugänge zu den Zugängen: Perspektiven und Gestaltungsoptionen” hosted by the project group Data Access Rules is dedicated to the question of how rules are to be designed in order to use data as effectively as possible and in a way that is compatible with the common good. For example, does the conventional, subjective legal definition of access modalities still meet current challenges or does it need to be reformulated? How should traditional allocation and access guidelines be revised, especially with regard to health and research data?

Against this background, the workshop will bring together experts from different disciplines to structure the debate along the guiding concepts of data situativity, data subjectivity, data sovereignty and data solidarity and to identify concrete design options.

Thursday, 4 May 2023, 10:00 – 16:00 CEST

Registration open until 2 May (see programme).

Responsible algorithmic decision-making in the workplace

Interdisciplinary Lecture Series

Continuously, beginning on Monday, 24 April 2023, 16:00 (CEST)

Online via Zoom (Zoom links see programme)

Algorithmic decision-making (or “ADM”) already has a significant impact on how our modern workplace is organised, whether it be through the selection of new hires, managing employees in their daily business, or assisting human decision-makers in the context of complex problems.

Against this background, the project group Responsible Algorithmic Decision Making in the Workplace continues its series of lectures that will look at these developments from an interdisciplinary and international perspective. Among other things, the following questions will be addressed: How should work contexts shaped by ADM be designed to promote responsible treatment of workers? What technical, organisational and regulatory framework conditions should be established in such contexts?

Interdisziplinäre Perspektiven auf eine verantwortungsbewusste algorithmische Entscheidungsfindung in der Arbeitswelt

Interdisciplinary Workshop

27 March 2023, 11:00 – 17:30 CET
online

This inaugural workshop of ZEVEDI project group Responsible algorithmic decision-making in the workplace (RADM) will shed light on issues around the responsible development and use of AI-based systems in the work context. A key question will be how AI-based decision-making disadvantages the workforce, for example, in the form of unequal treatment, loss of autonomy, or exclusion, as well as how appropriate mechanisms can prevent this. For these and other questions, perspectives from science and research meet with perspectives from politics and practice.

Monday, 27 March 2023, 11:00 – 17:30 CET

The workshop will take place online via zoom. Information on participation can be found in the programme.
