Structure

As of March 2023, about 60 active researchers or PIs (i.e. Principle Investigators) are involved in the Hesse-wide ZEVEDI network. They conduct research at the university locations in Kassel, Marburg, Giessen, Fulda, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Darmstadt. Some PIs are active in several of the Centre's projects: A total of ten PIs from Darmstadt, Kassel, Marburg, Giessen and Frankfurt are participating on the topic "Algorithmic decision-making in the workplace". A total of eight PIs from Gießen, Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Kassel are participating on the topic "Data access rules". A total of five PIs from Frankfurt, Marburg and Darmstadt are participating on the topic "Digitisation of Corporate Communication". A total of seven PIs from Marburg, Fulda and Frankfurt are participating on the topic "Tokenized Finance". A total of seven PIs from Marburg, Giessen, Frankfurt and Darmstadt are participating in the "EuroDaT - GovLegal" project. A total of 14 PIs from Marburg, Giessen, Frankfurt and Darmstadt are participating in the "eFin & Democracy" project. A total of twelve PIs from Marburg, Giessen, Frankfurt and Darmstadt are participating on the topic "Regulatory Theory of AI". The associated project group was funded until February 2023. A total of six PIs from Marburg, Kassel and Darmstadt are participating in a total of six ad hoc projects. A total of ten PIs from Marburg, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Darmstadt are participating on the topic "AI & Finance". The associated project group was funded until January 2023. A total of seven PIs from Kassel, Fulda and Frankfurt are participating on the topic "Sustainable Intelligence". The associated project group was funded until December 2022. A total of six PIs from Kassel, Frankfurt and Darmstadt are participating on the topic "RoboTrust". The associated pilot project was funded until December 2022. A total of ten PIs from Marburg, Giessen, Frankfurt and Darmstadt are participating on the topic "Data Sovereignty". The associated project group was funded until December 2021. A total of nine PIs from Kassel, Marburg, Frankfurt and Wiesbaden are participating on the topic "Diffusion of Responsibility". The associated project group has been funded until July 2022.

The Centre Responsible Digitality is organised as a virtual, Hesse-wide network. It links and bundles scientific expertise in the interdisciplinary field of digitality. For this purpose, participating scientists can use various collaboration and transfer formats. Cooperation is carried out across universities and university types. All Hessian universities and several Hessian universities of applied sciences are involved in current activities.

Vice directors are Prof. Dr. Florian Möslein (Civil Law, German and European Business Law) and Prof. Dr. Michael Bäuerle (Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Sociology of Law)

Spokespersons of the Project Groups

Each project group is headed by two participating scientists from different universities in Hesse. These spokespersons are also involved in ZEVEDI’s project group plenum.

Office

The ZEVEDI office is located at Technische Universität Darmstadt and headed by Dr. Christiane Ackermann. The office team supports the board of directors as well as ZEVEDI project groups in carrying out operational tasks. It also promotes activities in the areas of transfer and communication. Project teams assigned to externally funded projects are also integrated into the office, carrying out project-specific tasks.
