The “Digital Financial Market Infrastructures” (DiFiMI) project group examines the profound transformation of financial markets at the infrastructure level. The focus is on digital trading, settlement, registry, and custody systems, as well as their legal, technical, and economic foundations. The project aims to analyze the functioning, security, and resilience of digital market infrastructures in the interplay between traditional financial market regulation and decentralized technologies in order to identify key challenges. In particular, it addresses issues of regulation, liability, interoperability, and supervision. Through the interdisciplinary integration of law, computer science, economics, and the social sciences, DiFiMI contributes to innovation-friendly regulation and strengthens Frankfurt’s financial center as a European hub of expertise for digital financial market infrastructures.
